CommLedge leading the phase 2 of Cloud Standards Coordination
The focus of CSC Phase 2 is to analyse the needs of the users (e.g., SMEs, administrations, etc.) and to assess the maturity and applicability of standards to serve them. The project will address some of the angles that Phase 1 could not address (e.g. the role of Open-Source Software) and to review the results of Phase 1(e.g. the status of the Cloud Computing standardisation landscape).
The first phase of the Cloud Standardisation Coordination (CSC) initiative had been launched in December 2012, in response to a request of the European Commission to ETSI. The goal was to coordinate with relevant stakeholders in the cloud standards ecosystems and to devise standards roadmaps in support of the EU Cloud Computing policy in critical areas such as security, interoperability, data portability and reversibility.
The initiative attracted cloud industry players, public authorities, user associations and more than 20 standards setting organisations to work collectively on this objective. The final report of Cloud Standards Coordination was made public on December 2013 at an event jointly organised between ETSI and the European Commission attended by over 100 experts from the cloud community.
