The EU Framework for Smart Grids standardization is published
The first release of the European Framework for Smart Grids Standardization has been published by the three European Standards Organizations (CEN, CENELEC and ETSI) in response of the European Commission Mandate M/493. This work has produced several elements that will help Smart Grids standardization: a Reference Architecture, an Information Security framework, a methodology to handle Smart Grids Use Cases. On top of this, a first Set of Standards has been identified that will allow early implementations of Smart Grids Use Cases.
After one year of scoping of the project, the actual work has been started at the beginning of 2011, for a period of two years, by the Smart Grids Coordination Group (SG-CG), an emanation of CEN, CENELEC and ETSI. Smart Grids specialists from the Power and IT industries have been working together at defining the overall framework within which Smart Grids standardization should be undertaken in Europe (and beyond).
Emmanuel Darmois has been the conveyor of the Reference Architecture Work Group.
The work will continue for another two years period in 2013 and 2014 and a new release of the Framework (including a second set of standards) will be delivered at the end of 2014.
